I'm a wife to an incredible husband, a mom to 4 beautiful children, a sister to 4 amazing siblings, and a daughter to two wonderful parents. The relationships that these titles give me are why I love being a photographer- why I love photographs. I want to freeze little moments in time that help me remember who I loved and how I loved them. It's not about having the best photographs to put on social media. It's about having heirlooms that my great grandchildren will hold in their hands one day.
With the hustle and bustle of my 4 little ones around the house, I often find myself watching my children as though my eye was behind the camera. I watch the light fall on the silhouette of my 3 year old's perfectly highlighted baby hair as she peeks out the window to see if her daddy is home yet. By the time I grab the camera, she's off to her next adventure; but sometimes I catch her just before the moment is gone, and I know that someday, years from now when I look back at that photo, I'll remember the giggles as she anticipated his arrival and how she almost knocked him over as she ran for a hug every time he came in the door.
I married my high school sweetheart. When I see photos from the first time he gave me roses, I can almost feel the butterflies I felt back then. When I look at photos from our wedding, I immediately think of the warm tears running down my face as our pastor described so well the man I love with his words during our ceremony.
I love light-filled photographs. I love simple, organic style that will stand the test of time. I love looking through images I've captured of other wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters and thinking- I wish I had this photo with my husband or baby or brother or mom...It's fulfilling and worth doing and I love it. I love when families let me in to feel their connection through my lens; it's an enormous privilege and honor.
